Sticky upload problem - solved
Man, I spent more than an hour troubleshooting a sticky "No permission"
file upload problem (L8.6). It turned out that apache rewrite caused the
error.
"No permission" is probably the worst file error, because it can mean so
many things.
Steve Piercy's filetag test files finally helped me. I noticed that when
I moved the testfile to another domain, it started to work.
It turned out the culprit was my .htaccess file which is there to
rewrite this:
http://mydomain.fi/mypage
to this:
http://mydomain.fi/index.html?p=mypage
Apparently it meddles with the file upload. After that the solution was
easy to find - just needed to add one line to the rewrite conditions, so
URLs pointing to my uploads dir would not get rewritten:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/?(uploads|some-other-dir)/
File downloads from the uploads dir still work, because my other rewrite
conditions prevent rewrite for any actually existing files.
