[OT] Moving live site to another
Hi all-
Sorry for being somewhat off-topic but I've got a problem this morning and am not sure of the best way to go about fixing it...
I have a site (live) running by itself on a Mac Mini and need to move it to another "shared" server (x-serve/ Lasso8.5).
My problem lies in trying to set the site up in Lasso server admin on the x-serve. I can't set it up using it's domain name, as that name is already pointing to the other machine (With Lasso 8.6).
How would you set up Lasso Server to point to the new "site" on the new server - I cannot "easily" change ip addresses. I know the easiest way would be to add the old ip address to the new machine but I can't do that until I have Lasso admin configured for the site.
This brings up what I imagine is a "gotcha" with the new server licenses...
The current server hosting this site is running Lasso 8.6 with the new licensing. I had a CDL license that expired last month, so I cannot get into the machine to get the site preferences (luckily I remember almost all of the settings and can set it up by hand, I think!). I could attempt to update the CDL but being saturday, don't know if I would get the new license before Monday - If Lasso's system IS set up to do this automatically, I apologize for even bringing this up- based on the past, It never has been :-)
Since the problems that are causing me to move servers did not show up until early this morning, I didn't have time earlier to think about this and update the license...
If it IS possible to move Lasso settings from 8.6 to 8.5, this would save me a lot of time and I might be able to do it in one swoop (move the settings to the 8.5 server, shut down the current server, add the new ip address to the x-serve and , crossing my fingers, hope everything comes up roses (I'm probably missing a step there I'm just typing off the top of my head!).
Anyhow, What is the best way to go about setting up the site on the x-serve. In typing this I just thought of something - I could set up a sub-domain name ( temp.domain.com) and add that to the Lasso admin, them change it once everything is up and running - That shouldn't be a problem with Lasso should it?
As far as Apache and DNS are concerned, I don't have a problem with those settings as I understand the implications of moving a server, etc...
I WOULD like to know, however, if there is a way in Apache to redirect a virtual host to another machine. I really don't want to add the IP address to the x-serve but If I have to I could temporarily if needed (I'm working remotely, so changes like that become problematic with no one "at" the server at the time - Murphy's Law rules more often than not in cases such as changing IP addresses remotely :-)
I hope this makes sense - I hate awaking on a Saturday to a mess that requires moving a site to another server - Kind of ruins your weekend!
