Lassoers
For those of you who are on the fence about coming to LDC in four weeks (Sept 12th, 13th and 14th), I thought I would throw some information out there for you - as there are only a few days left to book rooms at the hotel at the Conference Rate. This conference is going to be the same as before - but different, and better. We went back to all of the recommendations from last year and are pushing to make it the best conference yet!
We have some great speakers coming to the conference, some of whom haven't been seen before. These include;
~ The Mathematician behind the collection and statistical manipulation of many of your favourite games: League of Legends, Starcraft, Gears of War, and many more (Currently moving to Lasso for increased speed handling), to talk about Big Data Handling with MySQL.
~ The Front End Genius behind the web-influence network Kred.com, to share techniques for front-end usability.
~ The man himself: Fletcher Sandbeck, talking about integration of Cloud and Lasso (Whoo Hoo! Fletcher is coming!)
~ New Lasso developers, speaking about various topics (including Page Jank, as taught in person from Paul Irish)
~ Many of the highest rated speakers from previous events (including Jolle, Brad, Ke, Tim, Jono, and more). Even Jim Van Heule is coming!
~ A chance for 1-on-1 time with any LassoSoft team you want to speak to: Kyle, Jono, Paul, Rachel, myself - or any of the Treefrog team.
~ We have a few surprises for you as well. I'd love to present them to you in person.
The conference will be thematic this year, for the purposes of flow. It is broken up into quick lightning talks (30 mins each), so you never get bored. It will look like this;
Thursday: Keynote and Announcements, Development skills building and 1-on-1s with LassoSofters
Friday: Beginner Lasso 9 Development, Front End Development, Lasso and other technologies, and IDE wars
Saturday: Advanced topics and Lasso 9 benefits in detail
I went personally to see the venue yesterday. Words cannot describe how beautiful the place is - it's one of the nicest views I have ever experienced. If you book a FallsView room (at a reduced rate, I will note, if you book by Sunday night) - you are quite literally sleeping directly above the Canadian Falls. Your breakfast will be eaten overlooking the Falls. It is breathtaking.

The restaurant in which we are holding our Awards Gala is also a sight to be seen. Directly over the Falls, the falls will literally be colorized to Lasso Blue, just for us. (I asked them to turn them off for a bit, so we could see behind them, but they refused - I guess blue is enough).

This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience - visiting the Falls, spending time together increasing our skills (in Lasso, in Development in general, and more), and having fun. All fully tax-deductible.
You should register ASAP for the conference and your rooms (even if you can only come on one day, consider doing it - if only to see the Falls once in your life - or again, before they dry up through climate change). Conference bookings end this weekend!;

If you have a spouse - this is a great opportunity to drag them along to meet the Lasso community, after all these years, without boring them to death. Niagara Falls has a myriad of tourist traps, I mean, attractions. You can easily spend a few days poking around everything from Haunted Houses to the Hershey Chocolate Factory. The streets are littered with stuff to do. (Remember to bring wads of cash, tho).
You should come just to see the Falls and hand out with Lasso Devs. You should stay for the conference sessions, so you learn and get it tax-free.
One final note: it's my Birthday on Saturday, Sept 14th. I'll send a list of presents for all attending to consider. Feel free to stick around Saturday and have some end-of-conference beers with me.
Let myself or Rachel know if there are any barriers which might prevent you from attending that I might help with!
Book ASAP if you haven't already!
See you in four weeks!
