I see that ds provides a datasource abstraction for L9.

Nice, but I still use L8 for now.

Also, I found a discussion on the knop list about an activerecord
adaptation for Lasso/knop.

And a presentation by Göran Törnquist on his "Object Relational Mapping"
library for L8. But it seems that his library has not been published.
