[ANN] New LassoTalk.com is live
The new LassoTalk.com is now live - faster and leaner!
We have moved it to it's own domain, with each of the associated lists on it's own subdomain to keep things as clean as possible.
We haven't finished - there are a number of things we plan to do over time and we will keep tweaking things as time permits.
Search engine visibility:
=================
Some of the changes we've made have been around SEO.
One of our goals is to increase the visibility of Lasso and it's community to the wider world, and getting Google and other search engines to know about the vast number of posts archived can only help.
Tagging:
=================
The new LassoTalk includes content tagging, which means that for the Lasso List you can tag either on the site or in your post.
As the addition of these keywords builds up over time they will get more useful, so we are encouraging you to add these keywords by tagging in the following ways:
To tag on the site
-------------------------------------------------------
Log in using your LassoSoft.com account, and you can then tag keywords* to a thread.
To tag directly from your email to the list
-------------------------------------------------------
Somewhere in your post, add the following at the *start* of a new line: "Tags: " and then tag as you would twitter, i.e. #lasso9 #webdevelopment
To demonstrate, this will tag this thread with the keywords "lasso9" and "lassotalk"
Tags: #lasso9 #lassotalk
Note that keywords are tagged to the thread not the post, so you don't have to tag each post!
Ranking:
=================
Traditionally, the "rankings" have been determined by a "he/she who posts the most, wins"
However in light of openly encouraging the practice of keyword tagging, we have tweaked this to include other factors - one of which is tagging.
So if your "post count" does not match your relative position please bear in mind it's not as simple as counting the number of discrete contributions!
Abuse of the system
-----------------------------
We should make clear at the start that we wish this to be a positive tool - it needs your participation to succeed.
Members who abuse the system with either spamming, junk, profanity or anything else deemed abusive or disruptive will be removed from both rankings and keyword contribution at the discretion of LassoSoft staff.
Speed:
=================
As just one of the speed increase tactics we've employed we have incorporated Ke Carlton's excellent Datasource (DS) library into the guts of the new LassoTalk.
If you haven't checked it out yet, have a look at https://github.com/zeroloop/ds
We've also increased the use of lazy loading so things happen behind the scenes so they're ready when you need them. This reduces the load time and gets what you've asked for first in your browser first. This does not penalize SEO due to the way we've structured content - Google won't have issues with duplicate content either.
So, enjoy!
Thanks
Jono
