Job description: Senior DevOps Engineer
This is an awesome opportunity for an experienced DevOps to take ownership of building and growing a large cloud-based operation. We have the fundamentals at AWS in place and are going live in June. The next 18 months will see us grow from a handful of servers to hundreds of servers.
The Senior DevOps Engineer has overall responsibility for our cloud, infrastructure, database(s), data, and security. You are responsible for all aspects of day-to-day technical operations and you will drive development of our server network that will be AWS cloud deployed. The network will be provisioned, monitored and maintained using automated systems to ensure a flexible and scalable solution. The database will be reliable, secure, scalable, and monitored. Proactive measures will be implemented and maintained to ensure a top-notch client experience.
Specific duties include:
• Develop and implement robust, secure, scalable solutions
• Apply expertise in infrastructure privacy and security, including all provisions to ensure high standards of P&S are maintained
• Manage and maintain a modern (leading edge, not bleeding edge) database infrastructure including all appropriate support and data protection strategies and assets
• Appropriate scaling solutions both at the website and the database level
• Management of servers in pre-production and production environments
• Provide up-front technical guidance for capacity planning, reporting, and software maintenance planning
• Proactively identify inefficiencies and develop automated processes to improve resource productivity
• Participate in the planning and execution of all change management activities and application release cycles through testing and production environments
• Participate in performance testing and tuning exercises
• Manage critical fixes and help architect industry-leading technical solutions
• Creation of scripts to deploy, monitor and manage a network of servers.
• Apply deep understanding of cloud computing including hands on experience with commercial cloud providers (AWS).
• Apply hardening of infrastructure
• Implement and maintain various tools to support overall organizational productivity, reliability, and quality
Specific skills required:
• Expertise in AWS server/cloud configuration/management
We use: VPC, RDS, EC2, S3, CloudFront, IAM
• Expertise in automation
We use: AWS APIs and SaltStack (equivalent to Puppet or Chef experience)
• Expertise in Linux administration
We use: CentOS (RedHat) with SELinux
• Experience (intermediate) in database management
Configuration, management, and standard troubleshooting of the database; but not necessary to be a DBA
Postgres Experience
• Experience with a continuous integration (CI) server (Jenkins)
• Experience in systems monitoring (New Relic)
Other tools we use (nice to haves):
· WSO2 ESB or ESB knowledge & Java
· Nginx, HA Proxy, IT Tables/firewalls, Bit Bucket, Git
