Lassoers

I apologize it that appears to be the case - it is certainly not our intention to appear to be deaf. We like to leave that to DNS on OSX.
We haven't responded to "whether or not we will package a release for CentOS 6 for Lasso 8.6 and when" as we have yet to thoroughly determine the scope and complexity of doing so. It sure sounds easy - but the hours of trying to make it happen to date have proven frustrating. CentOS doesn't provide as nice an upgrade path as say, Ubuntu.
It is not beyond me to point out the irony that the reason for people abandoning CentOS 5 is that it is that it is sun-setted, as much development has been put into CentOS 6 to improve it (from a security and performance angle). *This is exactly the reasoning behind moving to Lasso 9, which puts LassoSoft in the philosophically ironic middle with Lasso 8: right between the OS's "right to sunset due to improvements" and "your code".
http://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/General#head-fe8a0be91ee3e7dea812e8694491e1dde5b75e6d
Are we allowed to do that with the strikethroughs? ;)
Bottom line: the total effort for the average developer to reinstall their OS in comparison to reformatting their Lasso 8 code into 9 is comparable. Ergo, LassoSoft supporting old Lasso 8 code on a sunset OS artificially preserves poor security, stability and issues of performance - on a newer OS. This is not consistent with our values of security, simplicity, speed, stability and scalability. It is not consistent with the goals of progress and competitive energy being poured into Lasso 9 and the future - and the progress of the web and humanity as a whole.
For the record, CentOS 6 was released in 2011 *after* Lasso 8.6 was released by LassoSoft. Lasso 8.6 was intended as a final update and extension to 8.5 - with a wide path and toolset for moving to 9. The sun of 8 has set. It has risen again with 9. None of us want to go backwards into the dark.
Lasso 9 for CentOS 6 exists and can be downloaded at your leisure. Upgrading code is a meaningful exercise which you should consider with the same weight and passion as upgrading your OS!
</rant over>
Having said all of this, we promised a) not to abandon Lasso 8 and b) to use CLD revenues earned against CLD requests. In addition, I can also appreciate that our hosting partners would be better served through an upgrade to CentOS 6. So, taking our final core value to heart (community), we need to support our developers as a whole.
Ergo, yes, we are going to tackle Lasso 8 for CentOS 6 this year. The speed at which we engage on doing so will be directly proportional to the CLD voting roadmap located here;
http://www.lassosoft.com/Lasso-Roadmap
To date, it has no votes. So I feel no obligation to give you a date of completion - it has been assigned and it will get done, at some point.
If any CLD has something else they want to see worked on, please let us know before we retool our project management schedules. Feedback is welcome!
Thanks!
